Call Of Duty 2020 apparently teas in the Warzone of the modern war

With coronavirus raging and a bonafide live game on the horizon, it seemed likely that Activision would drop teasers for their next Call of Duty game in the structure of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone. Now that happens, because a mysterious new message introduced in Season 5 looks like something out of Black Ops. We could very well go back to the mystery-filled games of the Cold War we saw a decade ago. The figures, Mason! What do they mean?

Players receive randomly blurry, glitched messages that say “Know Your History.” GameSpot confirmed the message during a Warzone session, but it appears so fast that you can easily miss it. Another part of the glitched message appeared to be a message in Russian.

The allusion to history could be a reference to the rumored Black Ops: Cold War. That would put it in a historical context, and Black Ops is known for its mind-bending plot elements that revolve around false memories and other bright sci-fi elements.

Meanwhile, Call of Duty fansite Charlie Intel received a package with a note not to open it until August 10th. That could give us some indication when we should expect an official announcement.

Reports that the new Call of Duty would be a Black Ops game have been circulating for a while, but without an E3 this year, Activision has been quiet about its plans for longer than usual. That may change eventually.

GameSpot may receive a commission from retailers.
