Calaveras reports nine new cases of COVID-19, three under the age of 17

San Andreas, CA – Nine new positive cases of coronavirus have been reported by public health officials from Calaveras, three being under the age of 17.

Additional cases include a woman and two men between the ages of 0 and 17, four women and a man between the ages of 18 and 49, and a man over the age of 65. Four cases were reported in District 1, which includes San Andreas and Valley Springs. Districts 2 spanning the Mokelumne Hill, West Point, and Mountain Ranch area, and District 3, including the Angels Camp and Copperopolis communities, each had one case. District 5, including Milton, Jenny Lind, and Rancho Calaveras, had three reported cases. Contract tracking investigations are ongoing.

“We must continue to do our part to make sure we are on the path to recovery. While we wait for new treatments and a vaccine, there are actions that people can take now that we know that they work, ”said Dr. Dean Kelaita, Calaveras County Health Officer. Recovery is something we all want to happen as quickly as possible. We can accomplish this when local businesses and our community work together to stay safe and healthy. This means wearing a face covering, getting tested, washing your hands often, staying home if you are sick, and practicing physical distance. ” Dr. Kelaita said.

Currently, the county has 108 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and one reported death. There are 27 active cases and 80 recovered. Public health officials broadcast that as of today they will no longer give the total number of people screened in the county. Instead, only the last 14 days of test numbers will be provided, as they say, “This move aligns with the county’s data monitoring system put in place by the California Department of Public Health. Closely monitoring COVID-19 in Calaveras County will help keep the public informed and ready if restrictions are needed to slow the spread of COVID-19. “
