Byron Buxton twins to be tested after injuring foot

Minnesota Twins center fielder Byron Buxton was sent off at Target Field after suffering a left foot injury while following a long flight from teammate Nelson Cruz during an in-school game Monday in Minneapolis.

But early reports about the wounded outfielder were often positive, and manager Rocco Baldelli said the team is cautiously optimistic.

“Fortunately, in relative terms, the initial review did not show anything, which I consider to be a cautiously optimistic good sign,” Baldelli told reporters. “But we are going to go ahead and do many other evaluations and images tonight and tomorrow just to see what we can find and follow from there.”

“That’s probably what you expect to see, but we also know that every time a guy leaves the field, and you want to make sure he’s not leaving the field, we’ll make sure that we get a complete check-up from the medical staff.”

Cruz reportedly made a long trip to center field that was caught in the wind, forcing Buxton to change direction. Once he did, he fell to the ground in pain.

Buxton, a highly touted former prospect, has surpassed 100 games played only once in the past four seasons.
