Buster Posey of the Giants, Brandon Belt face inevitable risk of coronavirus

The Giants will have some interesting decisions to make on the roster when summer camp ends in a few weeks.

Unlike a normal spring training when the team would break camp with a roster of 25 players, manager Gabe Kapler will take an initial roster of 30 men in the shortened 60-game season of MLB 2020.

Boys who might have missed the cut in March could make the list expanded now.

For giants broadcasters Mike Krukow and Duane Kuiper, there are a few bubble players hoping to join the team. Some have heard of it, others are less known.

“I want to see a little bit more of Joey Bart,” Krukow told NBC Sports Bay Area’s Kelli Johnson last week. “It was quite intriguing when we saw him at spring training. He looks like he’s in the comfort zone and ready to make a contribution.”

Bart, the general selection n. # 2 in the 2018 MLB Draft, it’s arguably the Giants’ best prospect. During spring training in March, the 23-year-old receiver recorded seven hits in 16 at-bats and hit two home runs.

While Bart is on the Giants’ 60-man roster, he is expected to train at the alternate site in Sacramento to start the season. Right now, the team would rather have him get a steady job than sitting behind Buster Posey at the major league level. Of course, everything could change if Posey decides to unsubscribe from the season.

Krukow also wants to see left-handed pitcher Tyler Anderson, who has outscored the Giants seven times in the past four seasons.

“When we saw him two years ago, he was one of the best left-handers in the league,” said Krukow. “And then he fell last year, he fell completely out of favor in the eyes of the Rockies. He didn’t get hurt. He was mechanically screwed, I think he had a few minor minor issues. But I think he’s going to be ready to come back once they get together and I think it is an intriguing match, he at that stage. “

During the December Rule 5 draft, the Giants used one of their picks to reclaim right-hander Dany Jiménez from the Toronto Blue Jays.

“[Jimenez] He threw the ball really well, “said Kuiper.” You have to be part of the team, otherwise it will be returned to you. And it seems like with this list expanded now, I mean, why wouldn’t the team do it? “

In seven innings pitched in six relief appearances for the Giants this spring, the 26-year-old had a 2.57 ERA.

Kuiper mentioned another Giants prospect, though this pitcher did not make the summer camp’s 60-man roster.

“The other guy, he hasn’t had many years in the minor leagues, the boy Sean Hjelle, the boy who is 7 feet 3 inches, something like that,” said Kuiper. “I mean, it’s so intriguing that you almost wish you had it on the list just so you could see what people would react to when you walked into a hotel lobby. It would be amazing.” Well, there is baseball. team, “No, that’s not a baseball team. It has to be a basketball team, right?” So I want this guy on the team, and maybe he has a chance to do it. “

Kuiper likely won’t see Hjelle this season, but the 6-foot-11-inch pitcher is expected to be a big part of the Giants’ future.

Jiménez and Anderson will likely pitch for the Giants this season, and Bart could see the time if the opportunity presents itself to get him a steady at-bat.
