A resurgence of COVID-19 cases in bungalow colonies upstate has led to new guidelines and one colony going under lockdown.

The bungalow colony Mountain Lodge Estates reported a single case of coronavirus earlier this month, and it soon led to a raid of cases, including a number that were clearly reinfections.

Working with the Gedaliah Society and Dr. Eli Rosen, the board of the bungalow colony introduced new guidelines, including a preliminary a complete lockdown.

“Over the past 10 days, we have collaborated with other public health experts, studied the situation at MLE, and are trying to design guidelines for the safe management of what appears to be a mini-outbreak there,” the Gedaliah Society said.

She wrote that two of the adults involved appear to be clear of cases of reinfection. Based on this new information, it seems that even those who have the disease can now re-incubate, and become infected themselves, because anti-antibody protection has disappeared.

“In the best situation, there would be no coming and going of MLE, making sure the outbreak stays local, and is not exported,” they write.

‘Those who have to leave should be especially careful to observe social distance and mask use. Most importantly, visits to elderly parents should be delayed. The same goes for simchas and other events where social distance breaks down, ‘they said.

They also advised that shuls should be closed, and minyonim returned for outdoor use. Kiddushim should also be stopped. Children should not attend camp both inside and outside the bungalow colony.

“There is no perfect solution, and any attempt to end this mini-outbreak will require some hardship. In the coming days, we will tell you where this is going, but after experiencing the effects of this virus, we believe that a lot of caution is appropriate at this time, ”they said.

Two other bungalow colonies have also reported outbreaks.
