The burning of the Bulgarian flag in North Macedonia is a disgrace. Since we recognized them, Bulgaria has repeatedly reached out to them in difficult times. On the other hand, we see malice and insincerity. This can not be tolerated. Emotions must calm down and begin to act wisely. So said the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ekaterina Zaharieva for “Benovska pita” on Channel 3.
He stressed that there is no hatred on our part, and the Skopje authorities stimulate the attitude of the people there towards Bulgaria and the Bulgarians.
“It is difficult to tolerate an opinion that requires common sense. I hope that such a manifestation is the decision of Zoran Zaev to fire the director of the MIA agency after his rude qualifications in my direction.”
Zaharieva clarified that we had a balanced attitude towards Skopje. We shook hands in 2017, when the new government of Zoran Zaev appeared. Soon after, there was an increasing delay in the Neighborhood Agreement. Not only in the historical part, but also because of the infrastructure projects, the language of hate, etc.
“When I was surprised that an EU candidate country, Tito, is celebrating, the conversation against us intensified.”
Zaharieva also touched on the appointments of ambassadors. He noted that they do not pass easily. Daniel Mitov, an indisputable experience and career, was rejected by President Rumen Radev. The president did not want to share his reasons.
