The Prime Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia, Zoran Zaev, said that Bulgaria will most likely veto the start of negotiations with the European Union. He told Radio Channel 77 that the parliamentary elections in Bulgaria should take place in March next year, BNT reported.
Deputy Prime Minister Krassimir Karakachanov, who also participated in the radio broadcast, said that Sofia had announced the conditions under which she would support Skopje as early as last October.
“We have time for everything. I always leave space. But it is obvious that the Republic of Bulgaria is going to put a blockade on it, we are going to have a veto. And for me I think we should wait for the elections to pass, to be more sober, not to be pressured. ” “The elections should be decided in the spring, at the end of March with the elections in Bulgaria,” Zaev said.
“Bulgaria has very clearly established its criteria, on the basis of which it will support the scheduling of the first intergovernmental conference to initiate these negotiations. The Bulgarian government signed the Treaty of Friendship and Good Neighbor with the government of Mr. Zaev on 01.08.2017, only that this contract has not been fulfilled in practice for 3 and a half years, “said Karakachanov.
