The first official visit of Macedonian Prime Minister Zoran Zaev will be to Sofia, after the Borissov government officially threatened Skopje to stop him on his way to the European Union over historic disputes.
Zaev did not specify when the meeting is expected, but noted that “Gotse Delchev” will be discussed there.
“I expect a meeting no later than November 10. Of course, I want to visit Bulgaria and this will be my first official visit as Prime Minister of the new cabinet. We really have problems to solve and more. Gotse Delchev as a historical figure, it will take place. a summit in Sofia from 10-11 November, part of the Berlin Process, hosted by Bulgaria, and I am looking forward to comments from Bulgaria these days so that we can talk about the preparations for the Berlin Process and for this open topic, “said Zoran Zaev , cited by BGNES.
Deputy Prime Minister Krassimir Karakachano threatened Skopje that Bulgaria will block North Macedonia’s first intergovernmental conference with the EU if no agreement is reached in talks within the Joint Commission of Historical Experts. Karakachanov refers specifically to the issue of Gotse Delchev.
In Skopje, the conference is expected to take place at the end of the year.
According to Zaev, “it’s good that the joint historical commission is working to find a common solution.” He hopes to have proposals to solve this problem.
However, the commission has not met since November last week.
“Our wish is to meet in an hour and find a solution to this problem. Prepare and have an excellent organization of the Berlin process together with Covid-19 and have the first intergovernmental conference at the end of this year,” said the Macedonian Prime Minister . .
When asked who Gotse Delchev is, the Bulgarian or Macedonian Zoran Zaev replied:
“Gotse Delchev is a Macedonian revolutionary, but at the same time it is a fact that in Bulgaria he is considered a Bulgarian revolutionary. We have the city of Delchevo. In Bulgaria there is the city of Gotse Delchev. There are his monuments here and there.” Boyko Borissov , we bow to the monument to Gotse Delchev, but also to his grave in Skopje. These are the reality and the facts. “
Zaev believes that “historical figures should be the basis for building greater friendship and cooperation between the two countries and the two peoples. According to him, “it is not good, both for the European future in the Balkans and for the whole of Southeast Europe, that historical moments are swept under the carpet.”
That is why we have a Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation, so that in the future we can resolve these issues that unite us, that will remind us of our common history, which was something sacred for the citizens who lived at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. , when the revolutionaries fought for social rights, for freedom … I believe that through a series of decisions we will have cooperation and even greater friendship and thus there will be a dynamic in the European future ”, said Zoran Zaev.
