According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the risk of coronavirus is mainly the elderly, more often: men with cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, high blood pressure, chronic respiratory problems and cancer.
Boyko Borisov, who was diagnosed today with Covid-19, belongs in part to the risk group, whose health must be monitored with special care. Like Donald Trump, who fortunately recovered from the virus in a few days, the Bulgarian prime minister is slightly overweight and old – 61 years old. Borisov is also known to have cardiovascular disease and high blood pressure problems.
In an interview with TV7 in 2011, the prime minister admitted that he suffered from ischemic disease: “I also have ischemic heart disease. Anyone with high blood pressure suffers from such a disease.” Later, Boyko Borisov said that he went to the doctor regularly, monitored his condition and took blood pills. “Doctors say: ‘Don’t go to the sauna and don’t run so much, but I do.’
In 2013, in just one week, the prime minister was admitted to Lozenets Hospital twice due to hypertensive crisis, general fatigue and general malaise.
Boyko Borissov was hospitalized for the first time with high blood pressure / 190-110 / in the so-called Government Hospital on February 25, 2013. Then the doctors explained that it had also affected ischemic heart disease, which the Prime Minister had suffered for during years.
After spending three days in the hospital, the then-retired prime minister was discharged and doctors advised him to rest, avoid physical exertion and severe stress.
On March 3, Borissov was again admitted to the government with high blood pressure values: 180/100, general fatigue and general malaise.
Both times he had to have his systems turned on, in addition to other medications, to lower his high blood pressure, the hospital’s director, Professor Dr. Lyubomir Spasov, told the media at the time.
After it was learned that he had tested positive for coronavirus, Boyko Borissov isolated himself, but, like Trump, he continued to perform his duties and was in constant contact with members of the Council of Ministers. “The prime minister has a general malaise and does not have to be replaced by a deputy prime minister, as is the procedure in case of a more serious deterioration of the prime minister’s health,” said the press office of the Council of Ministers.
