Who will not support the GERB Constitution (SUMMARY)

[ad_1]

The draft of a new GERB constitution ran into serious obstacles after the Movement for Rights and Freedoms harshly criticized the proposed text and announced that it would not support it and would not cast its votes to convene a Grand National Assembly. Parliamentary support for the new basic law is currently only within the parties officially in power, and even their “yes” would not be completely unconditional.

The BSP, which has already announced that it will not support changes to the basic law, welcomed the news that the MRF will not. “It is absolutely logical, absolutely normal that the MRF, as a party that has been defending the democratic processes in Bulgaria for 30 years, also opposes this attempt to violate the Constitution,” Georgi Svilenski commented from the left.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva said she was not surprised by the MRF’s decision.

However, after the movement’s position, it became clear that it was becoming increasingly difficult to gather the 120 parliamentary signatures needed to present the GERB project. The 160 votes to convene the Supreme National Assembly seem like an even more complicated task.

The parliamentary accounts at this time show that the declared votes “against” – of BSP and MRF are 103. Even with the votes of GERB – 95 and the 21 deputies of the coalition partner “United Patriots”, the votes will not be enough – There are 116. In addition, IMRO established a special condition – the project to include its proposals.

The leader of “Will” Veselin Mareshki confirmed to bTV that his party will not participate in the collection of signatures for the GERB project.

The position of the independent deputies is not yet clear. Today, most remained silent

Once it becomes clear whether there are 120 signatures for a new Constitution or not, the Coalition Council of Governments will issue a decision on the matter. The deadline for getting support is Wednesday.

Before bTV, Deputy Prime Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva acknowledged that resignation remains a possible option.
