A true magician! This is what everyone calls Dr. Georgi Hinkov of the Military Medical Academy, who has been entrusted with the treatment of Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, infected with coronavirus. The experienced pulmonologist has been the head of the department “Evaluation and follow-up of patients before and after lung transplantation” at the military hospital for a year and a half, writes Maritsa.

Dr. Hinkov is the personal physician of a group of famous Bulgarians. His patients range from football club president Slavia Ventsi Stefanov to late businessman and playboy Hristo Sirakov.

Borissov revealed details about his health

“An extremely punctual person, who nonetheless shuns public appearances in every way,” describe his colleagues, Dr. Hinkov. Its element is lung transplantation. Aerobatics in medicine, which saves lives, but also offers difficult encounters with the death of young people, even children.

Hinkov was born in 1960 in Lovech and there are other famous doctors in his family. He achieves everything in life on his own, as evidenced by his professional biography. He graduated in medicine from Pleven, started as a district doctor in the village of Kakrina, famous for the capture of Vasil Levski.

He moved to Lovech Regional Hospital, the interesting thing is that he works there in the Department of Endocrinology.

He specialized in internal medicine and in 1990 he left for Sofia at the very dawn of democracy. 8 years followed in the pulmonary hospital of the Academy of Medicine, where he studied with the luminaries Professor Nichev and Prof. Stefanova. In 2011, his talent and hard work launched him as head of the lung department. Probably at the Government Hospital he met Boyko Borisov, who in 2013 was admitted there twice in just one week due to hypertensive crisis.

Last year, Dr. Hinkov headed the ward of the Military Medical Academy, which prepares patients for lung transplants and cares for them afterward. Until 2019, such transplants will not be performed in Bulgaria, and patients with a donor travel more frequently to Germany or Austria.

“There are incurable diseases, sadly, there is nothing we can do more than support their lives until the transplant,” sighs the light in one of his rare appearances on television.

It is on the occasion of the death of an 18-year-old bourgeois young man with congenital lung disease, who never waits for a donor. Naturally, family members blame native healthcare for the loss.

Unfortunately reunions with death are common in this area, especially due to unresolved issues with donation in Bulgaria. And surely everyone who has passed away, especially the young ones, also inflicts a severe blow on Dr. Hinkov. But he has long chosen his path.

The doctor has been through many wards and has solid experience. Therefore, it participates in a large number of clinical studies in the field of COPD, bronchial asthma, pneumonia, tuberculosis, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, diabetes mellitus.
