IN All amounts of AstraZeneca vaccine given for the first dose should be used. This was decided today, February 8, 2021, at its ordinary meeting by the Council of the National Vaccination Headquarters, informed by the Ministry of Health.
This will cover larger groups of the population and speed up the immunization process. The staff will recommend that medical professionals administer the second dose of the vaccine ten weeks after the first, depending on the possibilities provided by the brief product description. Members of the vaccination headquarters expressed the opinion that the Oxford vaccine can be used for the vaccination of all Bulgarian citizens over 18 years of age.
At the meeting it was clear that the delivery of the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine, postponed today due to bad weather conditions, is expected to arrive in Bulgaria in the middle of the week.
In parallel, the immunization of the second and third phases of the National Vaccination Plan against COVID-19 will be carried out. The Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine will be offered to the members of the Central Election Commission, the district and section commissions, with which the third phase of the Plan has begun. This ensures that the immunization is completed with two doses of the vaccine and, on the other hand, on election day, those involved in the conduct of the elections are protected to the maximum from the virus.
The overlapping of phases allows to immunize Bulgarian journalists, cameramen and photojournalists in the third phase of the Plan. Representatives of the media cover events at home and abroad on a daily basis, often in public places and at risk of contracting a coronavirus infection. They are in charge of informing the population and in this sense they can be considered “employees involved in maintaining the operation of basic activities for public life,” said the headquarters. The third phase will continue with employees of the Kozloduy nuclear power plant, water supply and sewerage companies employed in the transport and communication sectors, front-line policemen, etc.
Vaccination of vulnerable groups continues to be one of the top priorities of the Ministry of Health. Therefore, the end of the third phase of the National Vaccination Plan will be covered at the beginning of the fourth. In this phase, those covered by the immunization will be “people over 65 years of age and people with chronic diseases concomitant due to the most severe course of the disease and the highest risk of developing complications and death, including immunosuppressed or with secondary immunodeficiencies.”
