Where in Germany the situation is most worrying

Also in Germany, more and more people are becoming infected with the coronavirus and intensive care units are gradually filling up. Emergency measures have been taken in the capital Berlin.

Coronavirus cases in Germany have risen again, reaching their highest level since April. 2828 new infected are registered in one day. According to the Robert Koch Institute, some 306,000 people have been infected with Covid-19 in Germany since the beginning of the crisis and 9,562 have died.

Seven risk areas in Germany

In seven places in Germany, in Berlin and in the states of North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony, a dangerous increase in the number of people infected with Kovid-19 has been recorded. Health Minister Jens Spahn demanded that the rules be strictly enforced to limit the pandemic in the capital.

In four districts of Berlin, the number of new infected in the last week exceeds 50 per 100,000 people. That is why the Berlin Senate adopted new restrictions: from October 10, between 23:00 and 6:00, all points of sale will be closed: shops, restaurants, bars. Gatherings of more than five people or more than two households are also prohibited in this time interval. The gas stations will remain open, but will only be able to sell fuel and spare parts at night. Pharmacies will also continue to operate. Stricter regulations are also imposed on private celebrations. No more than 10 people can meet inside, instead of the current 25. For now, the new restrictions will apply until the end of October.

Berlin Mayor Michael Mueller said that if new restrictions were not imposed on public life in Berlin, a new complete blockade could be imposed.

Bud in Ham after a wedding

A case in Hamm, North Rhine-Westphalia, is a prime example of how a breach of the rules could lead to a massive outbreak. There, after a wedding with more than allowed attendees, whose contacts were not collected, the city reported the highest number of new infections per 100,000 people in all of Germany. Other dangerous areas in Germany include the town of Remscheid in the same province, as well as the Wechta district in Lower Saxony.

WHO: Every 10th person is infected

One in ten people could be infected with the coronavirus, warned the World Health Organization (WHO). And that means that most of humanity may still be exposed to infection. “The data varies by country, city or group. But it means that the vast majority of the world is still under threat,” said Michael Ryan of the organization.

Meanwhile, more and more European countries are tightening measures amid the increasing cases of Kovid-19 in the Old Continent. Paris closes bars and bans festivals, Madrid takes the same step. The authorities of the Spanish capital have also partially restricted traffic in and out of the city.
