Underestimated and neglected, the vote of Bulgarians abroad surprised both parties and analysts in the morning. At 4 in the afternoon, five big surprises stood out.
1. Recorded here in Turkey
Despite all the preliminary claims by the Foreign Ministry that our compatriots in Turkey may not be very active, the queues in front of the polls in the morning surprised everyone.
People were ordered to cast their vote at 6.40 am
Tensions are rising because until recently, the Foreign Ministry announced that it was not expecting more than 20,000 people, citing previously submitted statements.
However, as usual, people come up with full statements on Election Day. According to volunteer observers monitoring the process in our southeast neighbor, 70,000 people are likely to vote at the end of the day.
35 sections were opened in Turkey.
2. The youth filled the Western European sections.
Young Bulgarians from Western Europe filled the sections. Facebook is awash with photos of lines in front of the polls in London, Munich, Barcelona Young people’s interest in Munich is especially strong.
“I waited almost an hour and a half to cast my vote. There was absolutely no tension between the people in the queue, which was over 300 meters long, “Lyubomira Ivanova from Stara Zagora told Dariknews. Adding:” I was impressed that most of the young people, students, came to vote today “.
This was the queue in Spain
This year there are 69 polling stations in Germany. Munich is the city with the most requests for voting: 1193. The document is printed and signed before the commission.
3. 2000 online in England despite lockdown
Queues in London twisted compatriots despite the lockdown. Since dawn, those who wanted to vote had formed a long column in front of our embassy in the British capital.
There were about 2,000 people in one of the queues in front of the Sutton section. Voters said they waited two to three hours to exercise their right to vote.
Sutton authorities have even issued an official warning that they may suspend voting due to anti-epidemic measures, bTV reported.
Bulgarians in Paris
The Bulgarian embassy in London made the decision for the sections based on four main criteria: number of applications sent to vote, number of documents submitted, residence by region, geographic distribution and number of voters in previous elections, BGNES reported.
Some Bulgarians had to travel longer to the approved sections, but this did not stop them. And despite the inconvenience, they participated in the vote. The largest number of polling stations is in London: 13.
4. Wait 40 minutes in Barcelona
The Bulgarians waited 40 minutes in Barcelona to cast their vote, but that did not stop them from voting. A record number of voting requests were submitted in Spain, 7778. Turnout is expected to increase in the afternoon, likely to create congestion elsewhere, such as Madrid and Valencia.

5. Who will the student vote for?
To whom the voice of young Bulgarians in Western Europe and the United States will be directed is the big question, say sociologists. So far, the city right and GERB have fought mainly for this vote.
But in these elections both parties received great competition in the person of Slavi Trifonov. Tsvetan Tsvetanov is also fighting for the voice of young Bulgarians abroad. The denouement will come on April 5, when the last vote of our compatriots abroad ends, that of the Bulgarians in Chicago.
