What makes the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine mandatory? Development Topics

IN Bulgarians who have been admitted until the New Year will have real and lasting immunity against the coronavirus only in early February. This was predicted by immunologists. Until the second dose of the preparation is administered, people should be especially careful with their health, experts warned, NOVA reports.

In the first days after vaccination, side effects can occur, but they will be mild and nothing, doctors say. In exactly three weeks, those vaccinated today will have to repeat the immunization. There is no difference in the amount and content of the first and second doses of the vaccine. However, re-immunization is necessary for a longer lasting immunity of the body.

The preparation, which is already used in our country, belongs to the group of RNA vaccines. Introduced into our body, it begins to synthesize the virus protein.

“There is a unique rearrangement in our immune system. It has the unique ability to recognize the other by itself. Now everyone who is immunized develops this primary immune response or immune reactivity after the first encounter with the virus protein”, explained the professor Mariana Murdzheva.

However, this still does not fully protect those vaccinated and they may still be infected with the coronavirus, explained Cambridge University virologist Dr Velislava Petrova.

“If we get sick in the first 7 days of the vaccine, we will not have immunity and we will fight the disease as if we had not been vaccinated,” he explained.

Therefore, a second meeting with the vaccine is needed to build a complete immune response. During this time, those immunized must be protected, recalled the Head of Vaccination.

“This immune response is not built in hours and days, it takes weeks, so anti-epidemic measures must be observed,” explained Prof. Murdzheva.

And the side effects seen in the first country to start immunizations, Great Britain, were typical of any other vaccine.

“Mild fatigue, headache. There are two cases of allergic reactions in England in 600,000 vaccinated and these are people who have a history of allergies,” explained Dr Petrova.

She insists that the more people get vaccinated, the more the virus will try to mutate to continue infecting. Therefore, the restrictive measures had to remain in force until a sufficiently large part of the population was vaccinated.
