Two S-27J Spartan military transport planes, with Air Force crews, took off at 8 am this morning to transport humanitarian aid from Bulgaria to those affected by the earthquakes in Croatia.
The Chief of Defense, Admiral Emil Eftimov, and the Deputy Commander of the Air Force, Brigadier General Petyo Mirchev, came to greet the crews before the departure from Vrazhdebna Air Base.
“We are starting the year with a responsible task. I want to congratulate the crews on the new year, wish them success and still complete the tasks,” said Admiral Eftimov.
“Even at the beginning of the pandemic, the military transport aviation was the first to react; in a very short time, the cadets who were trained in Erasmus in different countries were transported,” recalled the defense chief.
“Let there be operational planes, trained pilots and technical personnel and show that society can always count on the Bulgarian army,” Admiral Eftimov added.
He explained that today a total of three humanitarian aid flights to Croatia will be completed. After the return of the two aircraft, one will be reloaded to carry and transport the last shipment.
