Holiday shopping is inevitable and the more stores open, the more effective it will be in avoiding overcrowding and pressure on delivery companies. In the first weeks of the shutdown, it became clear that closing the shopping centers had no effect. This is stated in a position sent to the media by the Bulgarian Association of Retail Centers.
There is no evidence that they are more dangerous than other large businesses that continue to operate, nor is there a change in the number of patients overall. That is why the Bulgarian Association of Shopping Centers, which brings together 11 of the largest shopping centers in the country, is calling for shopping centers to open as soon as possible before the Christmas holidays. This will provide shopping alternatives, which will be extremely beneficial for consumers, according to the Association.
“People will buy for Christmas to make their loved ones happy and being forced to do so from a small number of places is not anti-epidemic at all,” the association said. “We expect the shopping centers to open on December 22 at the latest,” they added.
The insistence of the shopping centers, of course, goes hand in hand with a permanent commitment to maintain and improve extremely strict measures of distancing and disinfection of common areas.
We remind you that the shopping centers in our country operate in accordance with the regulations and recommendations of the health authorities, and a significant part of them have introduced a series of additional measures based on world best practices. Large spaces and the use of natural air for ventilation support efforts to maintain a safer environment for all, the letter says.
The Association of Shopping Centers recalls that only in Bulgaria are the subject of such restrictions shopping centers. Such drastic measures are neither introduced nor extended to everyone except those who sell essential products. This is exactly one of the reasons for the uneven distribution of customers which, in addition to crowding together in one place, also creates preconditions for unfair competition. There is no doubt that the security of a commercial site depends on the measures taken on it, and not on whether it is independent or not, the Association said.
