Today we celebrate 135 years since the Unification of Eastern Rumelia and the Principality of Bulgaria!
The culmination of the national celebrations will be tonight in Plovdiv. President Rumen Radev will attend the fireworks display ceremony in front of the Union monument.
Vacation in the city under the hills
Traditionally, the celebration will begin at the Cathedral of the Holy Mother of God, where Metropolitan Nicolás will offer a prayer of thanksgiving. Wreaths and flowers of appreciation will be laid at the Zahariy Stoyanov monument in Dondukov Garden and at the plaque commemorating Major Raycho Nikolov.
On the night before the Military Club, the Patriotism Committee will present some of the events of September 6, 1885: the capture of the konak and the arrest of Governor General Gavril Krastevich. The Appeal of the Secret Central Revolutionary Committee of Bulgaria will also be announced, announcing that the government of Rumelia has been overthrown and the Unification of Bulgaria has been proclaimed.
President Rumen Radev in Brestovitsa and Parvenets
Celebrations on the occasion of the 135th anniversary of the Unification of Bulgaria will take place today in the villages of Brestovitsa and Parvenets in Plovdiv, and the guest of the events will be President Rumen Radev.
In Brestovitsa, President Rumen Radev will unveil a bas-relief of Vasil Levski in the Vlahova House, where one of the deacon’s hiding places was. Subsequently, the head of state will participate in the celebrations in Parvenets, where the cause of the Union is conceived and planned.
Afterwards, the President and Mayor of the Rhodope Municipality, Pavel Mihailov, will lay flowers in front of the commemorative plaque at the place where the decision was made by the Union and will join a solemn procession on the occasion of the event. Representatives of the Patriotism Committee will also participate in it, who will make a reconstruction of the events of 1885 in front of the community center in the center of Parvenets.
The “National Union March” will begin tonight at 7 pm
Prior to the ceremonial fireworks inspection, a “National March for Unity” will be held, which is expected to include Bulgarian patriots from all over the country. The goal: to show that despite divisions, society is capable of uniting around national causes, say its organizers.
The procession will start from the Central Square and will go through Tsar Boris III Obedinitel Blvd., the Fair Bridge, Bulgaria Blvd. and down Ruski Blvd. to Shesti Septemvri Blvd. Throughout the entire route, participants will carry a national flag 50 meters, made especially for the event.
Central boulevards will be closed
From 6pm to midnight, in connection with ceremonial events in Plovdiv, traffic will stop at Shesti Septemvri Blvd. in the section from the intersection with Ruski Blvd. to the intersection with Tsar Boris III Obedinitel Blvd.
Citizens will be able to access the square from 6.30pm through three checkpoints. People carrying dangerous objects and intoxicated people will not be allowed.
From 4 pm to 10 pm, the use of drones is prohibited in the solemn celebration area.
