As expected, Cornelia Ninova wins a second term as leader of the BSP. In the first direct election for party president, Ninova was voted by 43 228 socialists, or 81.5%, while his main opponent and until recently the right-wing party Kiril Dobrev won 7 914 voice, or 14.9%. Results are based on electronic protocols and are not definitive.
The third is Krassimir Yankov with 1,118 votes, or 2.1%, and the fourth, Valeri Zhablyanov with 759, or 1.4%.
The great intrigue of the election faded on Saturday afternoon, as “Positano” 20 announced that the activity has exceeded the 50% threshold, that is. at least half of the 80,901 socialists voted and the vote is legitimate. Today it was announced that at the beginning of the election day, after the elimination of the last dead and dead, the Socialists were exactly 80,236, and voters were 67.1% or 53,807 people of which 53019 actual votes.
However, the election was held on charges of manipulation in favor of Ninova, as well as calls for a boycott. Opponents of the leader said that the Central Election Commission worked in her favor, but today its president, Emil Voinov, described the vote as “fair, on equal terms, well organized and a benchmark for national elections”, and signals and complaints as insignificant.
Cornelia Ninova wins the first direct election of a BSP leader, a procedure that was introduced at her suggestion, after a female president was elected by congressional delegates of up to 800 people. According to the changes in the statutes that she promoted, a leader can have a maximum of two terms, that is, this is her last term, which is 4 years. Ninova also introduced a maximum term for the work of BSP deputies – up to 12 years, after which the Socialists had no right to be nominated for deputies. This drew criticism from veteran MPs.
During her first term, the internal opposition of the BSP managed to consolidate against the leader and the criticisms were mixed: she was making individual decisions and trying to turn the BSP into a leading party; that opens fronts in all parts of the party; who participated in behind-the-scenes negotiations with the ruling party, for which critics of Ninova, and others, were indicted. For her part, she affirms that she is fighting with the “parallel and mafia state” and that there will be no coalition with GERB.
It was hoped that if the direct election failed, Ninova’s critics would clearly rally in congress on Kiril Dobrev’s candidacy. On the other hand, it is accused of relying on GERB and MRF. “If Dobrev wins, Peevski will take over the party,” said the socialist.
After the vote, Dobrev announced that his supporters were not allowed to enter the sections and that they were also “erupting.” More complaints are expected.
The 50th BSP Congress will meet on September 26 and 27, in which the other governing bodies will be elected.
