Second division football club “Vitosha” (Bistritsa) suspends its participation in the championship. This happens after playing the eighth round of the championship. The club’s players and coaches have been informed by management that the team is disbanding.
“Yes, this is a fact and I can confirm it. They informed us, but I can’t say anything more,” coach Kostadin Angelov told Dnevnik.
Sergey Tashkov, who supports the club, also confirmed the decision to Darik.
Vitosha is ranked 13th in the standings, with eight wins and three draws after eight rounds. A week ago, the club parted ways with manager Asen Bukarev and was replaced by Angelov, who previously managed Bistrita’s team.
It was under Angelov’s leadership that Vitosha entered the First League in 2017. The team recorded three seasons in the elite, after which it was eliminated last season 2019-2020, finishing last in the table.
After the withdrawal of “Vitosha” Second League is left with 16 teams. The championship started with one less team, as “Danube” (Ruse) withdrew due to financial difficulties.
Vitosha is considered a team close to Prime Minister Boyko Borissov. He plays for the veterans of the Bistrita club, and in the team’s stadium there is a seat with Borisov’s name.
In June, accused businessman Vasil Bozhkov posted messages between himself and Borisov, in which the prime minister negotiated transfers of Levski players to Vitosha. At the end of that month, the Bistrita club was one of the teams that defended the game.
