Restaurateur Vaselin Denkov, also known as Veso Bradata and Veso Vodenitsata, after the restaurant of the same name in Sofia, ran his business by phone in the courtyard of the remand center. He explained the difficulty himself to the special appeals court on Thursday.

“I handle 400 people directly and another 100 indirectly. I have wonderful employees, I directly manage my restaurants, but in the last 6 months it has been terribly difficult, ”Denkov complained to the magistrates. He then explained that he had tried to give instructions to his subordinates over the phone, that he was in the detention yard, but since many detainees were waiting to speak, his time was short.

Veso Bradata was arrested on 1 September at the Kalotina border checkpoint, when he was returning from a vacation in France and Italy. Next to him was his favorite Miss Bulgaria 2001 Ivayla Bakalova. The two have lived together for some time. That is why they searched his car, a Range Rover, where Denkov’s belongings, 14,000 BGN and 16 men’s watches were found.

Miska was also at court to support her lover. She showed good humor and at the door of the courtroom with a smile and loudly greeted, “Hello everyone.”

Then he kissed Bakalova, who was behind him.

According to the special prosecutor’s office, Denkov, owner of the Lebeda, Vodenitsata and Boryana restaurants, is part of a criminal group. Ivaylo Georgiev – Pifa, the owner of the pawnshops in the Lyulin district, is said to be their leader. The group also included his son Sasho Georgiev – Little Pif, Georgi Bizhilov – Joro Tenisa, a friend of Vasil Bozhkov and five others. The group operated from January 2018 to August 28, 2020. The PIFs engaged in usury with the money Veso Bradata gave them, according to the indictment. They disbursed the sums at a huge interest rate, which ranged from 40 to 70%. In order to cover up their illegal activity, they issued mortgage vouchers in which gold was allegedly promised against the money.

Veso Bradata, which owns a finance house to make loans to Marshall Credit Group, claims otherwise. He explained in court that he knew one of the defendants because he sent people who wanted to receive money in exchange for betting on a property, and his company did not have permission to do so.

About 20 witnesses were questioned in the case, some of them with secret identities.

“Pifa’s funding comes from Vesko Vodenitsa. They ask him for some more serious deal,” said one of them. Her words were read by the prosecutor Maria Doycheva.

However, according to lawyer Ina Lulcheva, the witnesses did not speak specifically. “The pifs speculate with their relationship with magistrates, policemen, etc.”, said the same witness in her interrogation, explained the lawyer. He also produced a document that Denkov’s finance house did not provide money to the other defendants.

Unlike the previous hearing, this time the testimony of the secret witness was not quoted, who claims that Veso Bradata knew Vasil Bozhkov and was looking for people to attend the protests.

After an hour-long hearing, the court took Denkov into custody.
