The United States Senate Internal Security Committee is investigating MRF Deputy Delyan Peevski for trying to cover up illegal payments through intermediaries to hire American lobbyists to improve his reputation in the United States. The commission is also investigating a lobbying company for possible violations of the foreign agent registration law, Capital reports.
This statement is made in a 13-page summary, which the Washington-based lobbying firm Alexandria Group International has filed with the State Department on behalf of Atanas, Plamen and Hristina Bobokovi. The document is dated August 16 and contains a story about the investigation against Bobokovi and his business, the situation in Bulgaria, freedom of expression, but also about the relations between Boyko Borisov, Delyan Peevski and Chief Prosecutor Ivan Geshev. In addition, some of the public actions of the prosecutor’s office are mentioned, such as the investigation against Vasil Bozhkov, as well as against the former mayor of “Mladost” Desislava Ivancheva, and some comparisons are made.
The document explains that the Bobokovs have business interests in the United States and even supply rechargeable batteries to NASA, and also have contractual relationships with Chevron. This is why they seek protection in the United States, says the publication “Capital”.
“To survive and prosper, corrupt post-communist regimes like Prime Minister Boyko Borissov must control not only the government, but also the judiciary, the media, but also other levers of power. Along with Ivan Geshev and Delyan Peevski, they form a criminal triumvirate. that controls a large part of Bulgarian society, “Marshall Harris, managing partner of Alexandria Group International, told Capital.
“As the main oligarch of Borisov Peevski, he has no moral or ethical concerns and does not recognize the limits of the law. His tentacles extend to all corners of Bulgaria, but not only. His illegal activities are expected to attract the attention of the services “It is normal that he tries in vain to improve his reputation in the United States, and he is a mobster and an international criminal,” Harris said.
The publication made an official query to the spokesman of the Committee of Security of the Senate of the United States, Austin Oltenberg, but did not obtain answer.
Brothers Plamen and Atanas Bobokovi were arrested during a demonstration by the Public Prosecutor’s Office on May 28 of this year. The report pays special attention to some of the latest cases and accusations that the prosecution is proving through the media and not in court.
Atanas Bobokov was charged with participation in an organized crime group and spent nearly six months in custody on charges of organizing the illegal storage and recovery of battery waste generated by him and his brother’s Monbat company.
His brother Plamen received various accusations: in addition to participating in the criminal group, he was also accused of influence peddling due to his communication with President Rumen Radev’s adviser, Plamen Uzunov. The investigation against Uzunov was the prosecution’s explanation for entering the presidential building together with armed employees from the chief prosecutor’s security office. Just a few days ago it was announced that Plamen Bobokov has a third charge: not registering archaeological sites.
Atanas Bobokov was released last week on bail of BGN 2 million. Late last week the two brothers gave an interview to bTV, in which Plamen Bobkov said: “There is a triumvirate that rules this country: Borisov, Peevski and Geshev.” .
In an interview with Dnevnik on September 30, Plamen Bobokov said he was convinced that the two brothers were “named” because Peevski had decided to rob Monbat.
