The Republic of North Macedonia has officially requested the extradition of Igor Spasov from Bulgaria. The request has been sent to the Bulgarian authorities, who will continue to act accordingly, announced the country’s Justice Ministry, Blitz reported.
Former Macedonian Interior Ministry special services officer Igor Spasov, who was convicted of the murder of Martin Neshkovski, was arrested in Sofia earlier this month. Spasov was sentenced to 14 years in prison for the murder of Neshkovski in Skopje Square during the celebration of VMRO-DPMNE’s victory in the 2011 parliamentary elections.
The Interior Ministry issued an international arrest warrant for Spasov in late October 2019, after he failed to return to prison after completing his treatment in Turkey. He is wanted for serving an effective sentence of seven years and three months, according to the website of the Macedonian Interior Ministry.
