The passenger bus crashed into the back of the stopped truck. The accident occurred about 7 km. og Lesovo border checkpoint.

The driver of the Ukrainian truck, in which a passenger minibus crashed 7 km from the Lesovo border checkpoint on October 9, if convicted, faces a prison sentence of 5 to 20 years. The bloody accident killed three people and injured 16 others, two of them seriously. The bus with passengers from Sliven, Yambol and Karnobat had left for a market in Edirne.

The Moldovan who was driving the truck has already been charged with causing the wrongful death of more than one person on the road. The case is rated as particularly serious, Milen Bozhidarov, the supervising prosecutor of the Yambol district attorney’s office, told 24 Chassa.

It was established that the truck was parked in the lane without any indication, appearing as a barrier for other road users. The reasons are still being clarified, but the detainee refused to cooperate with investigators. In the first minutes after the accident, he said he was the last in a long line of cars waiting to cross our border into Turkey.

However, it was clarified that at the time of the accident, at 5.35 am, there was no longer a queue. Additionally, the truck remained on the road for hours, not minutes, and was surrounded by multiple vehicles, other trucks and a car, investigators revealed. They allow the passenger bus driver, killed on the spot, to be responsible for the severe accident. It is possible that you were driving at a speed that did not match the road conditions.

There is stopping distance at the crash site, but not enough to avoid impact, meaning the bus driver saw the stopped truck at the last minute, after which he crashed into it, investigators said.

For now, the Moldovan driver remains behind bars for 72 hours with an order from the prosecutor. On October 13, the state attorney’s office will file a request with the court to impose the most severe restraining measure: permanent arrest.
