The murder of an unarmed African American by an Ohio police officer has again sparked protests against racial injustice and police violence in the United States. The incident took place in the city of Columbus, when Andre Maurice Hill, 47, was shot multiple times by a police officer who was called to the scene due to a minor incident.
Seconds before the shooting, images from the camera equipped with the police officer show the man holding a mobile phone in one hand and the other was not visible. The city’s police chief, Thomas Quinlan, says he has started proceedings to fire an employee named Adam Koi for misconduct because the victim was unarmed.
This is the second such case in Columbus in three weeks.
After the shooting, several dozen people gathered to protest in the city, demanding justice for those killed in such incidents.
