Two men were killed and a woman injured today in a cold steel attack in front of a residential building in the eastern French town of Cholet, AFP reported, citing the district attorney’s office.

One detainee was reported, but it is not known whether he was the author.

The weapon is a heavy or sharp object. So far, no responsibility has been claimed for a terror attack, Ange’s prosecutor Eric Buyar said, BTA reported.

Firefighters and police have cordoned off the perimeter around the Leclerc residence in the town of Cholet, the West France newspaper reported. Mayor Gilles Burdulex said an elderly family and another man in front of the building had been attacked.

A police source said a man was detained in one of the apartments in the building.

According to Radio Europe 1, the alleged attacker is 35 years old. The police know him for minor offenses. According to the initial data of the investigation, the man came down from his apartment and met a man in the hall, whom he brutally assaulted and hit him on the head. The first victim died from his injuries.

The man left the building and went to the park, where he assaulted an elderly couple. The 83-year-old husband died on the way to the hospital by helicopter. His 81-year-old wife is seriously injured, but her life is not in danger.

After the attack, the man returned to his apartment, where he was detained by the police.

The reasons for his action are still unknown.
