With the meeting of an initiative committee to establish a party, the new political project of the former chairman of the GERB parliamentary group Tsvetan Tsvetanov was launched. In one of the halls of the National Palace of Culture, he gathered 89 people, among his former colleagues from the GERB, athletes, businessmen and the journalist Goran Blagoev.
With “Republicans for Bulgaria”, as the party is called, Tsvetanov set himself the goal of uniting all people who consider themselves to be center-right in politics, defending Euro-Atlantic values, as well as uniting all ethnic groups in the country. He stressed that his project is for people with experience and ideas and added that the party will not be one-person and only one person.
Among the most famous names who joined the initiative committee are former GERB deputy Dzhema Grozdanova, GERB coordinator for minorities in the Shumen district Gunay Ismail, brothers Pavel and Rumen Valnevi, who have a business in the USA the now-defunct BiT TV, journalist Goran Blagoev, who hosts the “Faith and Society” program on BNT, three-time world weightlifting champion Blagoy Blagoev and others.
“In this confrontation and opposition in politics, now we must find the way to normality. Today I do not see in the country the horizon that it should have. There is no real political debate. Half of Bulgarians do not vote, perhaps because many people she’s disappointed in her voice so far, “Tsvetanov said in her speech.
Gunay Ismail was one of the iconic figures in GERB’s Shumen organization. He left the party claiming that “the Bulgarian Turks from the mixed zones have been handed over and sold to the MRF.” After him, more than 50 people from the local party organization returned their party books. The minority issues coordinator has sent a letter to the GERB executive committee, explaining his decision. He claims that ethnic Turks from the mixed areas of the Shumen region have been “handed over” to the MRF. Read more about his departure from GERB here.
Among the participants in the initiative committee is Ivan Todorov, who has long been a representative of the Bulgarian diaspora in Chicago. He provided his family’s home in central Plovdiv for the party to use as an office. The opera singer Georgi Pandurov, who has lived in Germany for 40 years, also joins the Republicans for Bulgaria. This was done by the criminal psychologist Todor Todorov.
According to him, the direction of Bulgaria is Europe and a strategic partnership with the United States. The main highlights of his party’s program are education, the judiciary, culture, small and medium-sized enterprises and e-government.
Lawyer Viktor Serafimov was elected chairman of today’s meeting. Radostina Tsirkova was appointed secretary of the meeting. Both were elected unanimously. The match will be established on September 27.
