Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has said that current US head of state Donald Trump awaits the fate of Saddam Hussein, The Independent reported.
The leader of the Islamic Republic described Trump, who will soon hand over power in the White House to election winner Joe Biden, as a “crazy” man. Rouhani compared him to former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein and predicted that the US president would follow his fate.
“The day the madman was hanged was the day the people celebrated the final victory.” Trump’s fate will not be much better than Saddam’s, “the Iranian president said at a cabinet meeting. It was during the Trump administration. Tehran and Washington were close to war, and earlier this year US forces killed Iranian General Qassem Soleimani with a drone.
The Trump administration withdrew from the 2015 nuclear deal involving Iran and other world powers and introduced a “maximum pressure” policy targeting the Iranian economy. Rouhani said both Saddam Hussein and Donald Trump were mentally unstable aggressors. “One has waged an armed war against us and the other an economic war,” the Iranian leader said. Rouhani’s provocative comment came weeks before Trump left the White House and possibly faced criminal lawsuits from federal and state officials for his actions during his tenure.
