30 million BGN will be provided in aid due to the COVID crisis. However, before the funds actually reached the passenger transport companies, in Ruse they sold their buses en masse to cover the losses, BNT reports.
Azmi Ademov has been involved in passenger transport for 20 years. It owns 25 buses and minibuses, employs more than 30 employees: drivers, technicians and administration. However, the COVID crisis is about to ruin your business. For more than half a year, their vehicles have been parked in garages because there are no tourist and intercity routes. There are only three minibuses on the road on three lines between towns.
“We are not making money, we are not doing anything at the moment, we are just there. The passengers have already withdrawn from this mode of transport. They do not want to travel by bus, they all have cars. The buses are running at 30 percent,” Azmi said.
The businessman announced the sale of almost all buses and minibuses at the beginning of the epidemic in the spring, but so far no one has shown interest in them. There are also loans, but so far the banks do not pressure him. The situation forced him to cut some conductors.
Azmi Ademov sees hope for survival in the financial aid for carriers that the government awarded last week. It is already preparing documents on the measure to present at the earliest possible moment.
According to Ademov, passenger transport plays an important role in the recovery of the economy after the pandemic. But to revive it at least in half, it will take a lot more money and a quicker response from the state to provide it.
