Young football star Ty Jordan has died at age 19, the University of Utah announced.
Authorities in Texas, where Jordan grew up, and Utah did not provide details about the circumstances surrounding the boy’s death. However, a police spokesman in the city of Denton confirmed that law enforcement officers responded to a shooting signal and the accident victim later died in hospital.
“After a preliminary investigation, we believe it was an accidental shooting in which the victim accidentally shot himself,” a police spokesman told ESPN.
A week ago, Ty Jordan was named rookie of the year on the University of Utah football team.
“Ty’s personality and smile were contagious and had a huge impact on our game in the short time he was with us. He leaves an indelible mark on each of us and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. “From the bottom of our hearts, all of the members of the Utah soccer family want to tell you that we love you, Ty, and may we rest in peace,” said coach Kyle Whittingham in a special statement.
