A driver with 2.72 per thousand leaving Sofia was captured by traffic policemen, announced the Interior Ministry in an extraordinary briefing.
The incident occurred around 11 am today, Chief Inspector Lachezar Bliznakov, representative of the Traffic Police in the GDNP.
A driver was caught behind the wheel a bit later today after using drugs, Bliznakov added. He explained that the most common offenses were driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
More than 5,000 criminal decrees have been issued for December 31 and January 1 alone, the Traffic Police said.
In sp. Bliznakov noted that there is a tendency to reduce the number of victims and injuries on the road compared to the period around the Christmas holidays last year. “For the period between December 20, 2019 and January 1, 2020, last Christmas holidays, 195 serious traffic accidents occurred, 260 were injured and 15 died. For the same period this year there is a decrease of serious accidents. For the same period, from December 20 to January 1, the number of serious traffic accidents was 46 less (149), the number of injured was 69 less (191) and the number of fatalities was three less (12) compared to last year, he explained.
