Tottenham qualified for the Carabao Cup quarter-finals, beating Chelsea 6: 5 after penalties at home.
Both teams got off to a relatively weak start and it took the hosts ten minutes to gradually push the opponent out of their own half.
Hugo Loris saved the Calum Hudson-Odoi blow, but soon after Chelsea still found the result. Newcomer Timo Werner opted for a solid shot in the lower right corner of the small area and left no chances for the French guard. It was also the German sniper’s first goal for his new club.
Fernandes had a penalty claim shortly thereafter in a conflict situation in the Blues penalty area, but referee Lee Mason signaled that play would continue. Ten minutes before the break, Mandy saved Lamela’s low shot.
Tottenham started the second half very inspired and Bergwein’s shot went over the goal. Regilon, who sped up, bet hard on the southpaw, but Mandy saved. Before game time at the front door, Aspilicueta would go up.
Werner tried to repeat his drill from the first half, but this time Loris caught the projectile aimed at him. Then Hudson-Odoi bet on a powerful shot that went over the target. Harry Kane would also be at the top of the opposite door.
In the 83rd minute Tottenham managed to tie. Sergio Regillon crossed from the left to the far post, where the Chelsea defense hung up and Eric Lamela scored in the near corner.
At the end of regulation time there was no new interesting situation and penalties had to decide who will move. There, Mason Mount made the only pass and Tottenham eliminated Chelsea.
