The European Medicines Agency is holding exploratory talks with Russian vaccine maker Sputnik V, said European Commission spokesman Stefan de Kersmaker.
He added that at this stage the company has not presented documents to obtain permission to access the European market.
At the same time, the European Commission has concluded preliminary discussions with the pharmaceutical company Valneva on the purchase of a possible vaccine against COVID-19.
The agreement with him allows the purchase of 30 million doses for all member states with the possibility of even more.
The closing of the talks expands the portfolio of vaccines produced in Europe.
So far, contracts have been signed with AstraZeneca, Sanofi, Jansen Pharmaceutical, Biontek / Pfizer, Kurvak and Moderna, and negotiations with Novavax have been completed.
