The snowdrop is one of the most delicate flowers with its white petals that fall to the stem. Also, it will first make your garden a little more colorful in early spring. Last but not least, make sure the ground is well cleared of weeds. It will not be superfluous to dig it up by adding fertilizer and minerals to the soil. A good option is compost. Manure is bad. There is a danger of various fungal diseases on the bulbs.
Keep in mind that snowdrops are one of the smallest. To increase the possibility of sprouting, they must be strong, dense and without visible lesions.
They are planted in previously dug holes to a depth of 6-10 cm with the top facing up. They don’t push themselves too hard not to hurt them. Then cover them again with soil. If you think it is too dry, you can water it. The fewest bulbs you need to plant in one place to look good is 20 to 25. Thus, in spring they will color the garden noticeably.
If you think winter is too cold, cover the bulbs with a layer of straw or fir needles to keep them warm. Remember that as soon as the snow melts, you must remove it immediately and they can germinate.
Be aware that snowdrop is propagated by bulbs. They are removed from the ground in the summer, in June or July. Store in a cool place and shortly before planting you can separate the new bulbs from them.
Don’t over water the snowdrop. Estimate the amount of rain in the fall, and in the colder season this job will make snow.
If the beautiful flower begins to bloom after that, you should not forget to remove its exaggerated flowers. This will make way for new ones.
What does the flower connect with Adam and Eve?
One of the legends about the snowdrop connects its origin to Adam and Eve. When the Lord expelled them from the gardens of paradise, they were forced to get used to a variety of conditions, including the cold. The first people were unhappy about this. One day, however, while walking through the snow, several snowflakes fell on Eva’s footprints. From them emerged the delicate snowdrop. According to legend, this is why it symbolizes the hope that something better will come after each ordeal.
Another legend says that after God created the world – the grass, the sky, the trees and the flowers in the most magnificent colors – he also created snow. For him, however, there was no color left: he was invisible. He had the opportunity to choose for himself. He approached the most beautiful flowers, the lily, the rose, the sunflower, to ask for at least some of their colors. They all rejected it.
The snow grew sad and he began to feel sorry for himself, not noticing that the little white bell was next to him. Hearing his words, the flower offered him its color. That is why the snow is white and only the modest bell suffers near it.
