Thousands of human bones were found in the home of a British surgeon – Curious

A well-known British surgeon treating politicians, athletes and celebrities has secretly collected human bones, reports The Independent, quoted from Channel 3.

More than 5,000 bones removed during hip replacement were found in the Worcestershire mansion and Birmingham office by surgeon Derek McMinn.

The doctor has been collecting his collection since the early 1990s, without asking permission from the patients whose bones he took.

The staff at Birmingham Hospital, where McMinn works, knew of his unusual hobby. Some of them helped him preserve the extracted bones by placing them in special containers.

In 2019, McMinn recognized the bone preservation of hospital management. He explained that he planned to study them in retirement to keep his mind awake. One of the hospital staff members told The Independent that the story was not made public, as McMinn, as he put it, was “the goose that laid the golden eggs and has made a huge income.”

The police have launched an investigation against the doctor. As it did not have an official license to store bodily organs, it is suspected of violating British human tissue law.
