Bulgaria will be able to count on more than 500 million euros from the EU to cover the initial costs of fighting the pandemic. The amount will be transferred as soon as the European Parliament approves the report on this new aid instrument at second reading, Andrei Novakov MEP told BNR.
This instrument is funded retrospectively for projects launched to deal with the coronavirus and the consequences of the crisis it has caused. This means that if additional money is paid to doctors under an operational program, for example, we will be able to get it back, he said.
Novakov believes that a compromise on the EU budget and the recovery plan will be reached, despite the veto imposed by Hungary and Poland.
Both countries have blocked the next seven-year budget on the grounds that they do not agree that the allocation of European money depends on how a country respects the rule of law.
