The Bulgarian youth team comes to light in one of their most important matches in recent years. Tonight, Alexander Dimitrov’s boys face Poland with only one task: victory. The match starts at 7:00 p.m. and is crucial for the eventual ranking of the young “lions” in the 2021 European Championship.
At the end of qualifying, Bulgaria must play two games. This and the Estonian house in early November.
What must happen to have a chance to qualify?
The first and most important condition for Alexander Dimitrov and his players is to get victories in both games. Only then will they have a chance to qualify, but that is not certain.
Currently, the situation in our group looks like this:
According to the regulations of the European Finals, all group winners are classified, plus the best five second teams from the 9 qualifying groups. Russia is the leader of our group and it is very difficult for this status quo to change. At the moment, the match with Poland is a direct match for second place. The Poles have 16 points and Bulgaria 14. If we win today, we will be one point ahead of Poland and we must beat Estonia to maintain our position.
Will second place be enough to qualify?
As we have already noted, the five best second teams out of a total of 9 groups qualify for the European final. Currently, the provisional ranking for this indicator looks like this:
Poland’s third place, which we should change in this ranking, should not deceive us. One of the keys is the fact that the results against this ranking are lowered compared to the last of the group, since there are groups of 5 teams.
If we assume that Bulgaria takes 6 points in the two remaining matches, we would get 20 points and it is very important whether Estonia or Latvia will remain last in our group. If they are Estonians, we will have to take 6 points from our assets, and if they are Latvians – 4. So we have to keep our fingers crossed that Estonia somehow does not lose to Serbia, and Latvia suffers losses from Russia and Poland, which it is quite probable.
However, this may not be enough, because we depend on the other second teams and their performance. Here the calculations seem quite complicated, but you can see for yourself that there are teams with fewer matches. For example, Portugal has 4 households. Italy also has one game less.
Thus, the ranking of the youth of the European Championship goes through two mandatory victories and a good match in the rest of the groups.
