Civil protection searches for a crocodile in the German province of Thuringia, after for the third time in recent days in the country, people reported that they noticed a dangerous reptile, DPA reported.
The search operation is carried out along the Unstrut River, near the town of Schöneverda. A local horse breeder reported that there was a crocodile in the area. Local authorities have issued a warning to the population, reports BTA.
Traffic on the river stops on the stretch, cycle lanes are closed along the valley. We are taking things seriously, the head of the crocodile search operation, Marcel Toman, told a local radio station.
The first report of a spotted crocodile in Germany, where reptiles are not common, was again in late August along the Unstrut River in Burgenland, Saxony-Anhalt. So far, there have been no reports of the animal’s discovery, although local authorities have taken security measures and launched a search. Days later, a man photographed a young subway crocodile near the city of Ortenberg, 40 km from Frankfurt.
