The Veliko Tarnovo Appeals Court confirmed weeks ago a 20-year prison sentence under the strict regime of Veselin Ivanov, 62. He ordered the murder of his neighbors and then the burning of his house in the village of Bogdanchovtsi in Gabrovo. The reason: long-standing enmity.
The liquidation of the elderly family Elenka and Iliya Spirdonovi cost 25 thousand euros, and both foresaw the end.
“They will kill us and set us on fire,” they told their two sons days before they were shot in cold blood and almost charred in the ashes of their home.

Vesselin believed that the fierce oaths of the Spirdons had fallen on his family and caused a great tragedy: the death of their 26-year-old son.
The young man died on July 3, 2017 in a car accident.

This is the last straw for the neighborhood conflict, which has not subsided in years. The reasons for the scandals on both sides were constant: Veselin’s dogs and his children, who took to the street, Ivanov’s cars, which the retiree did not want to stop near his home.
The disputes and threats escalated after Vesselin erected a concrete wall in his garden, on the Spirdon border. Elijah, however, believed that she was breaking into his property.
On this occasion, Veselin received another spell attributed to the Spirdonovs: “die one of their sons for each of the built walls.”
At dawn on August 11, 2017, Elijah, 70, and his wife Elenka, 61, were found nearly charred in their cremated home.
A version of the arson is in the works, but no one assumes the fire was not the cause of the double death.
Days after the investigation began, an autopsy showed the two had been shot before being burned.

Veselin’s 54-year-old friend Lachezar Parashkevov from Sofia was charged as the perpetrator of the murder and arson. He died during the trial in Gabrovo and the criminal proceedings against him were terminated.
The two have known each other for over 30 years in the alcohol business. They had a joint business company registered in Serbia. Lachezar lived in Byala, near Ruse, and they saw each other often.

Lachezar replied that it cost a lot of money. And the man from Bogdanchovtsi set the price: 25 thousand euros to do all the work.
Parashkevov asked for 5,000 euros in advance. Vesselin’s wife took them out of a bank in Veliko Tarnovo and handed them over to him, for which he filled out an expense order, evidence shows.
Late at night on August 10, Lachezar set off in an Audi A4 from Byala. The car was detected by cameras at 2 p.m. as it passed through Dryanovo in the direction of Gabrovo.
Come to town. Parked 30-40 m from the town hall. The secret of the execution would have been buried under the ashes if the lonely 85-year-old Granny Milka, whose house was opposite the Spirdons, had not trembled with the thieves.

The murderer was Lachezar Parashkevov. He entered the house through the corridor and reached the room on the first floor. Elenka and Elijah slept in it. They both woke up. Lachezar pulled out a pistol and fired two bullets into Elijah’s body first. He fell face down, parallel to the bed in which Elena slept.
The woman was shot by a bullet. The killer poured incendiary liquid on the right corner of the bed, then placed the plastic bottle between the dead woman’s legs.

The fire spread rapidly and engulfed the entire house. When the flames erupted from the ceiling, there was a deafening explosion from a gas cylinder. The neighbor’s grandmother, Milka, called 112. The call was accepted at 3.50.
Fire and police crews are arriving in the neighborhood from the Balkans. Throughout the next day, inspections were carried out, supporting the skeletal skeleton of the house to remove the corpses of the victims. They take out the burned bodies in blankets.
The work is extremely difficult due to the evidence destroyed by the fire, the researchers recall. The murder weapon was never found. However, a shell and shell from a 7.62 caliber factory cartridge from a Soviet Tokarev pistol were found at the crime scene. The spouses are believed to have been killed with him.
On the day of the fire in Bogdanchovtsi, a memorial service was held a little further down the mountain alley for 40 days since the death of Nikola, 26, Veselin’s eldest son. The young man and his brother smear themselves with a Volkswagen Tuareg in a stopped truck without signs and lights on the road near Karnobat.
The driver is Vesselin Jr., 20, who miraculously survived. The relatives meet at the house and, at 9 in the morning, Lachezar calls Veselin:

However, 13 days after the Spirdonovs’ execution, investigators already have evidence and have located Lachezar Parashkevov due to the transfer. He was detained at a hotel in the Albena spa, where he and his ex-wife spent the money from the wet order.
You don’t wait to be convicted. A serious illness took his life in the process. Therefore, Veselin Ivanov remains the only defendant.
If the Supreme Court of Cassation confirms his sentence, he will spend the next 20 years behind bars. However, he must also pay BGN 800,000 in blood money to the two children of his victims.
