The largest drug greenhouse in the Veliko Tarnovo region was destroyed last night during a specialized police operation at a former poultry meat processing plant in Gorna Oryahovitsa.
According to the Interior Ministry, the facility is super modern.
Two men from Sofia and Arbanassi have been arrested and must be charged. The marijuana seized is for hundreds of thousands of levs.
The detainees, a 32-year-old man from Sofia and a 30-year-old man from the village of Veliko Tarnovo in Arbanassi, grew large quantities of hemp under special conditions, said the director of the Regional Directorate of the Interior Ministry, Senior Commissioner Dimitar Mashov .
“They found about 14 kilograms of dry plant mass.” They found two more rooms in which there was absolutely an entire growing cycle of 1000 plants, which were cared for by these two people, “he said.
The market value of the seized dried marijuana exceeds BGN 70,000, the mass of green leaves will be weighed and evaluated, said district attorney Hristo Hristov.
For the cultivation of plants such as hemp, the law provides for prison terms of up to five years and a fine of up to BGN 10,000, and for the possession of narcotics for distribution, the penalty is up to eight years and a fine.
The investigation of the case continues. It remains to be seen where the drug was placed and if the drug greenhouse was part of a marijuana production chain.
According to the researchers, the Gorno Oryahov drug greenhouse with a laboratory is the largest in the district. It is the fourth that is crushed this week in the region.
