The body of the tourist who died in Stara Planina was removed in the Panitsite area, the Interior Ministry announced.
At around 6 p.m. on January 2, a report of an incident in the mountains was received at the Karlovo Regional Hospital. According to information from the head of the Karlovo mountain rescue service, two men from Varna have undertaken a transition between the Zhaltets and the Tortuga peaks in the Central Stara Planina. In the accident, one of the men fell down a ditch south of the road between the two peaks and his death was confirmed by his friend.
The rescue operation planned yesterday was thwarted by bad weather. A team from a mountain rescue service today made a second attempt to launch a rescue operation.
At this time, a team from Karlovo Regional Hospital and a doctor are inspecting the body of 45-year-old Todor Zhelyazkov, whose body was removed in the Panitsite area. The other 34-year-old mountaineer managed to escape by taking refuge in the Botev refuge.
The Police warn that during this time of year it is not advisable to cross the alpine path at the top of the mountain, especially with poorly prepared and equipped tourists, as well as by people who are unaware of the peculiarities of the terrain.
