The Bulgarian Special Prosecutor’s Office also participated in the operation
The specialized prosecutor’s office is involved in the neutralization of an international organized criminal group for the illegal distribution of television programs through IP television, cybercrime and money laundering, said the state prosecutor’s office.
The group has operated in 11 European countries: Italy, Germany, Sweden, Malta, Lithuania, Greece, the Netherlands, France, Romania, Slovenia and Bulgaria, and has generated significant illicit revenues.
In 2019, the Special Prosecutor’s Office opened a file on a European Investigation Order sent by the Bulgarian National Office to Eurojust, issued by the Republican Prosecutor’s Office in the court of Naples. The order is related to a criminal proceeding initiated by the Naples prosecutor’s office against a criminal group organized by audiovisual piracy through the broadcasting of television programs, film productions and payment programs protected by copyright on the Internet. The investigation was undertaken by investigators from the Investigations Department of the Special Prosecutor’s Office and inspectors from the General Directorate for the Fight against Organized Crime.
On November 10, an operation was carried out to disband the gang, which was carried out simultaneously in the 11 affected countries.
Under the direction and supervision of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office of our country, a search and seizure was carried out in the office of a commercial company based in Petrich, attended by two foreigners. They are being investigated as members of a criminal group. From there, in addition to the Sofia, Yambol and Montana offices, servers, set-top boxes, routers, laptops and other equipment, as well as many documents, were seized. Bank accounts managed by group participants, as well as personal property, were seized.
For its work on the case, our Special Prosecutor’s Office was highly praised by the Republican Prosecutor’s Office at the Naples court and by Eurojust.
