The National Assembly will discuss the changes in the Electoral Code in second reading, reported Bulgarian National Radio. Five bills were introduced between the two readings.
The GERB proposals contemplate voting both with machines and with ballots. They also propose the creation of a new chapter in the Electoral Code for the implementation of a mixed system in the elections to the Grand National Assembly.
GERB proposes a majority election of half of the deputies in the Grand National Assembly, and the remaining 200 to be elected proportionally, in addition to providing the opportunity to vote by machine or ballots in all sections with more than 300 voters.
The GERB project provides the opportunity to vote for two consecutive days due to the coronavirus. The amendments introduced by the BSP envisage voting only by machines, and the provision of voting by machines should be the responsibility of the Council of Ministers and not the Central Election Commission.
The changes introduced by the MRF foresee the elimination of the box “I do not support anyone” on the ballot, as well as the text of the mandatory voting that will be eliminated. The Movement offers much higher preference thresholds, elimination of sedentary in local and European elections, and agitation in a mother tongue other than Bulgarian, as long as it is translated into Bulgarian.
The NFSB proposes to maintain the general order provided in the Constitution for elections to the Grand National Assembly and eliminate the possibility of voting on two consecutive days.
IMRO’s proposals contemplate the removal of the numbers on the ballot in front of the names of the political forces and the direct election to the mayor in settlements with more than 200 inhabitants, and not as before, with more than 350 inhabitants, adds BNR.
