The specialized prosecutor’s office prosecuted 9 people for participation in a criminal group organized for the recruitment of women for the purpose of sexual exploitation, which carried out its criminal activity in the territory of the city of Sofia.
The defendants were arrested on November 1, 2020 during a specialized police operation by agents of the BOP Sector – Sofia under the direction and supervision of the Special Prosecutor’s Office.
In the course of searches carried out in a nightclub in Sofia, on houses, cars, as well as during personal searches, numerous evidence of criminal activity was found and seized, incl. Cash in various currencies with an equivalent lev of around BGN 70,000 (approximately BGN 30,000, EUR 18,000, USD 2,000 and GBP 250). So far, more than 10 witnesses and victims of sexual exploitation have been questioned.
The evidence gathered so far shows that the group operated from the beginning of 2018 until its neutralization, using as a base a night bar rented by the manager in the center of the capital.
Sexual services are provided to customers in the restaurant itself, as well as in Sofia hotels after placing the order by phone. The participants in the group carried out the transport of the women, each of them performing the specific functions determined by the leader for the recruitment of women and the organization of the activity.
On November 4, 2020, the Specialized Criminal Court determined the most severe restraint measure “Detention in custody” for the leader and three of the group’s participants. One is under house arrest and the other with a signature determined by the supervising prosecutor.
