Among them is President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov. He is another high-ranking official who tested positive after Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin became infected.

The news comes a day after President Putin eased the country’s restrictive measures.

Prime Minister Mishustin tested positive for coronavirus two weeks ago. Since then, the Minister of Culture, Olga Lyubimova, has also been diagnosed with the virus, as has the Minister of Construction, Vladimir Yakushev, and one of his deputies.

In this context, the number of coronavirus-related deaths in Russia is only 2,116.

For comparison, in Germany, where most tests are performed and has the best healthcare system in Europe, 7,754 people have been reported dead in 173,273 people.

According to an analysis by the Financial Times, if the increase in overall mortality in Russia since the beginning of the epidemic is taken into account, it turns out that probably 70% of those killed by coronavirus did not enter the statistics.

In April alone, in the two largest cities in the country, where the majority of registered infected people are concentrated, deaths were 2,073 higher than the average of the last 5 years. At the same time, there are only 629 coronavirus-related deaths, meaning there is no explanation for the 70% increase in mortality.
