The town of Dolni Tsibar, home to 1,000 people, is known as Roma Cambridge, where there are no children who do not go to school. 80 percent of graduates go on to high schools and each year between 20 and 25 students become students. “The town is famous for many teachers, doctors, computer specialists, lawyers,” said Mayor Kamen Dimitrov.
“Journalists from Europe came and saw immediately how the fever for knowledge was boiling. They expect to be greeted with horrible images of misery, but they see that we are not a helicopter and they even thank me for my efforts, ”said the mayor.
In grades one through eight, nearly all students graduate and meet the criteria for good preparation and mastery of the material. They perform with dignity at the regional Olympics. There are excellent students in Bulgarian language and literature and in exact sciences, the children receive the most awards in foreign languages. The parents of many of them are abroad in Italy, Spain and France.
“Dolni Tsiber shatters the myths that Roma are a burden to our country. 60 people work under the temporary employment program, separate companies have hired parents of young children in construction activities. My people are well qualified, for that is in demand in the labor market, ”says the mayor, who has already served 8 terms.
