The secret cigarette factory near the village of Zhelyazno in Plovdiv, which was destroyed today, was operating in complete conspiracy, the prosecutor’s office announced.

The operation revealed a modernly equipped room, prepared for the complete production cycle of Marlboro cigarettes. The workshop was located in an old corral at the end of the town.

During the initial inspection, the machines found installed on the assembly line were found to be new and of the highest class. The factory had a separate room for pre-processing and cutting tobacco. Numerous boxes marked “Filter”, pieces of cardboard for Marlboro cigarettes, packing sheets, corcophane, zipper, tobacco, etc. were found.

According to initial data, the participants in the process worked in strict secrecy and each of them had certain responsibilities. On the territory of the factory living conditions are provided for workers: bedrooms and utility rooms. The building is soundproofed and with tinted windows. A local generator is placed in a separate room.

Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated at the Plovdiv District Prosecutor’s Office. One has been arrested, another will be arrested. The two are involved in the preparation of the illegal production of cigarettes. Three others have been declared wanted by the Ministry of the Interior.

Inspections, searches and seizures, witness questioning, and the pertinent expert reports will continue to be carried out.

The illegal factory was visited today by Chief Prosecutor Ivan Geshev and Chief Secretary of the Interior Ministry Ivaylo Ivanov. Also present were Todor Deyanov, Plovdiv Appellate Prosecutor, Rumen Popov, Plovdiv District Prosecutor and Senior Commissioner Yordan Rogachev, DO Director of the Ministry of the Interior – Plovdiv.
