There was also an inspection by the Judicial Inspection, which showed no violations. When Mike Pompeo reacted in February, Justice Minister Danail Kirilov suddenly wanted the Bulgarian judge fired.
The President of the Supreme Court of Cassation, Lozan Panov, commented that Minister Kirilov had brought geopolitics to the judiciary. Authorities in Washington have announced from the start that they have evidence of their allegations against Mitalov. At the start of the scandal, SJC representative Boyan Magdalinchev said Mitalov would be treated as “innocent until proven guilty.”
