The US Air Force has acknowledged the failure of the F-35 program, which for a decade was the only attempt to replace the main US F-16 fighter, writes “Forbes,” cited by BGNES.
It is noted that in the context of increasing competition, the design of the F-35 was significantly complex, which slowed development, increased costs, and reduced project reliability. As a result, Air Force leaders had to accept the fact that they could not compensate for the proven F-16 with the F-35.
And the military is already recognizing that it will have to launch a new program.
“The US Air Force talks about the need to create new light fighters are a tacit recognition that the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II aircraft program has failed,” the article says.
