In the seven days since the beginning of September, 16 people have died and 168 have been injured in 141 serious accidents in the country. This was said by Inspector Lachezar Bliznakov of the Traffic Police during the presentation of the measures taken by the service in relation to the end of the weekend.
He noted that drivers should be careful and slow down. Real life is coming to an end on the road, the policeman noted.
Traffic at the entrance to the capital of the Hemus Highway, in the Vitinya area, is the busiest, where large traffic jams have been reported since noon, Bliznakov said.
He added that Traffic Police officers are taking measures to prevent cars from stopping in the tunnels, which would create preconditions for dangerous accidents. Drivers who want to avoid traffic jams in the Vitinya area can also use the Republican highway I-1, which is served by trucks.
Another busy spot at the end of the weekend is the Vladaya area, where many cars congregate.
An organization for reverse traffic has been established there, since two lanes have been enabled to enter Sofia, and additionally, after the reverse, SDVR traffic police officers have been posted, who will regulate traffic in the busy sections.
On all other access roads to the capital, traffic is calm, Inspector Bliznakov said. He recalled that those who enter Sofia from today can drive on the ring road in the section between “Gorublyane” and “Mladost”.
Traffic police officers will regulate and support traffic at points of neuralgia, the policeman added. He noted that there are additional police teams everywhere on the roads that will monitor for problems. We coordinated our actions with the Road Infrastructure Agency last week, they have frozen all current repairs on the roads, said Inspector Bliznakov.
